Sharing Skin Care Tips (SSCT) : What is Toner ?

Today we will learn about Toner and this is the 2nd skin care product are commonly used in daily skin care Step : 1- Cleansing 2-Toner 3-Moisturize i called it 3-step to beauty!

Toner -: What is toner?  Toner is step 2 in skin care routine or Toner use after Cleansing and Before Moisturising
skin toner or simply toner refers to a lotion or wash designed to cleanse the skin and shrink the appearance of pores, usually used on the face. Toners can be applied to the skin in different ways:
  • On damp cotton wool. (most frequently used method)
  • Spraying onto the face.
  • By applying a tonic gauze facial mask - a piece of gauze is covered with toner and left on the face for a few minutes.
But for me i normally use my hand, and just gently pat, it give a nice fresh feeling to me,
Users often apply moisturiser after toner has dried.
there are 3 type of toner :
Skin bracers or fresheners
These are the mildest form of toners; they contain virtually no alcohol (0-10%), water, and a humectant such as glycerine. Humectants help to keep the moisture in the upper layers of the epidermis by preventing it from evaporating. A popular example of this is rosewater.
These toners are the gentlest to the skin, and are most suitable for use on dry, dehydrated, sensitive and normal skins. It may give a burning sensation to sensitive skin.
Skin tonics
These are slightly stronger and contain a small quantity of alcohol (up to 20%), water and a humectant ingredient. Orange flower water is an example of a skin tonic. Skin tonics are suitable for use on normal, combination, and oily skin.
Astringents
These are the strongest form of toner and contain a high proportion of alcohol (20-60%), antiseptic ingredients, water, and a humectant ingredient. These are commonly recommended for oily skins as they are drying, removal of oil from the skin does not cause overproduction of oil as there are no structure in the skin that provides a mechanism that will send a negative feedback to the oil glands that the skin has become dry and it needs to compensate for that condition . to compensate for that dryness it would be recommended to use a water based, non comedogenic facial moisturizer.

What toner does :

Toner returns your skin's pH back to "normal"

The optimum pH for skin is 5.5.  pH simply means the level of acidity.

Your skin needs a certain amount of oil to stay waterproof and resistant to infection.  Too little oil and you have dry skin (which can lead to problems with wrinkles); too much oil and you've got an oil slick and probably acne.

pH is measured from 1 to 14; 7 is neutral, 1 - 6.9 is acidic and 7.1 - 14 is alkaline.  The reason 5.5 is optimal?  You want your skin to be able to be resistant to harmful bacteria, right?  Between 4 and 6.5 is where you want to stay.

When you use a facial cleanser, please don’t use a body bar/soap/cleansing gel on your face, you tend to strip the acid mantle - especially with what’s mass produced for grocery and drug stores.  Your skin is the first line of defense against all those creepy crawlies (microorganisms), wind, and pollution.  By using your toner you bring your skin back to where it’s supposed to be, so yeah it’s pretty important.

Follow up with a moisturizer, hopefully you wear an SPF all year round as well.  (By the way, keeping your SPF at 15 or below is a good idea.  Simply reapply instead of opting for a higher number.)  And using one skin care line (cleanser, toner, moisturizer) is a good idea.  They are formulated to work together.

You may wondering what toner benefits ? ->
It shrinks pores.
It reduce oiliness.
It gives your skin pH balance.
It adds a layer of protection.
It can prevent ingrown hairs.
It can prevent breakouts
It can remove dirt
And many more, different toner for different skin problem.

Do all woman (and young girl/lady) Need Toner? Is toner Necessary? :
This question also common many woman asked, many people believe in Toner is removes the extra makeup and oils on your skin, while minimizing pores while also preventing breakouts , It cleans, smooths, acts as an anti-inflammatory, it gives your skin a boost, good tone and a healthy glow , it is all depend on your skin, some people just can't / don't use toner skip it and go to moisturize, unless you have really oily skin it best to use toner, i know that we all one to be perfect even we can't, we just want to more beautiful that normal so you would likely to buy toner for more glowing skin, but it not necessary, but also important to some people.

How to Choose a Skin toner :
1-Analyze your skin type to help you select the best skin toner > You will be able to find different skin toner varieties for normal, oily, dry, sensitive, acne-prone or combination skin in the facial care department of your local retail or beauty supply store

2-Visit your local retail or beauty supply store to see what types of skin toners are available.
For example, skin toners for dry skin might have the words moisturizing or lotion on the label. Those for oily skin should have no added oil content. The labels on the skin toner bottles should be clearly marked to help you make your selection.

3-Read the label on the skin toners to see which varieties are best for you

4-Consider your budget when selecting a skin toner, and do not feel that you must purchase one that is costly for it to work effectively.

5-Purchase several varieties of skin toner to try, especially if you are not sure which formula will work best for your skin type.
For example, if you have combination skin, you might want to try a moisturizing toner for dry, winter months and one with low alcohol content for summer months when you need extra oil control.

6-Purchase cotton balls, tissue, or makeup pads to apply the skin toner.

7-Ask the staff at the retail or beauty supply store for advice if you have questions about the available varieties of skin toner.

Here are some Skin care routine tips :
  • Normal Skin-Normal skin is smooth and firm to the touch with small or medium sized pores. It doesn't get too dry or too oily, and it only has the occasional blemish. People with normal skin should moisturize, cleanse, use a spot treatment, and maybe a night solution.
  • Dry Skin-If your skin feels very tight and is noticeably flaky in areas, then you have dry skin. Dry skin can be caused by lack of hydration or malnutrition. Dry skin can look rough and bumpy, and rarely gets oily. Those with dry skin should find a deep moisturizer, use a spot treatment, and use a moisturizing night solution.
  • Oily Skin-Oily skin is easy to identify. If your face is visibly shiny, and literally feels slightly wet to the touch then you have oily skin. Oily skin come with large pores that are more noticeable, and usually is more prone to blemishes. If you have oily skin, you should tone, exfoliate, use a spot treatment, and lightly moisturize once in a while.
  • Combination Skin-Combination skin gets a taste of just about every skin type. If you have combination skin, you tend to get oily around your nose, chin, and forehead area, and dry around your cheeks. The rest of your skin is pretty normal. A lot of people have combination skin. If you are among them, exfoliate, cleanse, moisturize, and use a spot treatment.
  • Sensitive Skin-If you burn very easily, have reactions to certain cosmetics, and have irritated skin after a dramatic change in weather, then you have sensitive skin. Sensitive skin is very hard to deal with because it isn't as durable as other skin types. You have to thoroughly test products before risking a purchase, and you find blemishes hard to treat. If you have sensitive skin, use a moisturizer, cleanser, and spot treatment all suitable for sensitive skin.
